These five conditions represent many of the reasons people have turned to conjure workers for generations: to get well, find and keep love, protect themselves and their families, make a living, and handle people who mean them harm.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAll five jars will be set together and worked throughout the month as a complete Hoodoo altar. The Health Jar will be worked for healing, strength, recovery, peaceful rest, and continued well-being. The Love Jar will support attraction, reconciliation, affection, passion, commitment, and harmony. The Protection Jar will guard the individual, household, family, business, reputation, and spirit. The Money Jar will draw employment, customers, income, prosperity, opportunity, and financial stability. The Sour Jar will address enemies, gossip, harassment, interference, betrayal, and malicious intentions.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe altar will be fixed with the roots, herbs, minerals, and traditional materials appropriate to each condition. Angelica, life everlasting, eucalyptus, rosemary, hyssop, ginger, and chamomile will support the Health Jar. Rose, damiana, catnip, hibiscus, lavender, magnolia, cinnamon, and honey will feed the Love Jar. Angelica, devil’s shoestring, rue, rosemary, black mustard seed, bay, red pepper, and iron will strengthen the Protection Jar. Alfalfa, five-finger grass, cinnamon, bayberry, sassafras, patchouli, and magnetic sand will build the Money Jar. Vinegar, lemon peel, peppers, alum, poppy seed, sulfur, and rusty nails will give force to the Sour Jar.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eEach petition will be written by hand, dressed with the appropriate condition oil, and placed into its corresponding jar. Blue and white candles will be worked for Health, pink and red for Love, red and white for Protection, green and gold for Money, and black and red for Sour. Psalms and prayers appropriate to each condition will be prayed across the altar throughout October.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFor \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHoodoo Heritage Month\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, the complete altar offers an opportunity to honor Hoodoo as a working tradition shaped around the realities of everyday life. People needed healing when somebody became sick. They wanted love, marriage, affection, and reconciliation. They needed protection for themselves and their households. They needed jobs, customers, money, luck, and opportunities. They also encountered enemies, betrayal, injustice, gossip, and people who needed to be dealt with. Conjure developed an enormous body of work around these ordinary human concerns.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe materials themselves tell part of that history. Roots dug from the earth, herbs grown in gardens, ingredients kept in kitchens, minerals and curios, candles, oils, personal concerns, handwritten petitions, Biblical scripture, and ordinary household objects became the working vocabulary of generations of Hoodoo practitioners. Knowledge passed through families, neighborhoods, workers, root doctors, spiritualists, midwives, healers, and people whose names may never have been recorded.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eOctober’s All Jar Bundle honors the fullness of that inheritance. Hoodoo contains tenderness and severity, prayer and practicality, healing and defense, sweetness and heat. Throughout the month, all five jars will remain active together, giving sustained attention to the major conditions affecting each participant’s life.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSuggested Alignment:\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eUse October to learn one piece of Hoodoo history that you did not know before. Read an interview with an old rootworker, learn about a historical practitioner, study a traditional root or herb, listen to an older spiritual or blues recording, investigate the history of a Hoodoo practice, or ask relatives about customs they remember from earlier generations.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eYou can also create a simple Hoodoo Heritage Month practice at home. Keep a Bible, a glass of water, and a white candle together in a clean place. Once a week, light the candle safely, read a Psalm, and spend a few minutes thinking about the Black men and women who preserved these traditions under extraordinarily difficult circumstances.
